Keith Hughes Accepts Bantam Major/14U Head Coach Position

MARLBORO, MA--The Minuteman Flames are happy to announce that Keith Hughes will be the Head Coach for the newly formed Minuteman Flames Bantam Major/14U Team for the 2013-14 Season. Keith is currently an Assistant Coach for the #1 nationally ranked '01 Elite Flames, and will bring a wealth of coaching experience to his new post.

Keith was a standout player at Catholic Memorial under legendary coach Bill Hanson, where he won multiple Massachusetts Division 1 State Championships. After Catholic Memorial, Keith played for four years at Assumption College from 1990-94. In Keith's time at Assumption, the school posted its best 4-year record in its history, with an impressive 69-32-1 line. Keith captained the team his senior year, leading them to the ECAC Championship game, and was recognized for his efforts by being named team MVP, and winning the school's Alfred Berthiaume, A.A. Memorial Award for going "above and beyond".

After his impressive playing career, where he is among the school's leaders with 121 points, Keith began coaching at Assumption, where he would remain for eleven seasons—-the first four as an assistant, and the remaining seven as Head Coach. In his final season coaching at Assumption, Keith led the Ice Dogs to their best finish, making it to the semi-final game in the playoffs.

Keith left his post at Assumption in 2005 so that he could spend time with his two young sons. Much to the delight of the Flames, he has been active coaching within our organization for the past three years, and will make a big impact as the Bantam Major/14U Head Coach. Keith brings with him a focus on development and learning that is crucial to this age group, and the values he instills remain with the player throughout their career.

Keith will be ably assisted by Topher Bevis, a Flames Alumnus and the Junior Bruins 16U Coach.

"We are very excited at the opportunity to have such an accomplished coach lead the Bantam Major/14U Flames," Program Director Larue Renfroe commented. "Throughout his playing and coaching career, Keith has exemplified character and competitiveness, and will enhance the development of the Bantam Major/14U team both on and off the ice."
